J. Alan Cotton joined Clarient in 2013 to lead commercial operations. Prior to his role at Clarient, Alan served as Zone Vice President at Siemens Diagnostics where he led the sales and technical operations and had a lead role in the execution of a national Performance Culture initiative. Prior to that role, Alan lead sales efforts as Vice President, Sales for Viracor -IBT. Prior to that role, Alan held various positions at Beckman Coulter, Inc. During his tenure at Beckman Coulter, Alan lead sales efforts for diagnostic sales of chemistry, hematology, immunoassay, automation and IT products in the South Central United States. His last role at Beckman Coulter was leading the flow cytometry team. In this role he lead the sales efforts for diagnostic and research sales across the United States as National Sales Director. Alan received his B.S. degree in biology from Jacksonville State University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Keller Graduate School, DeVry University.

Venicha D. Smith, SPHR, Human Resource Business Partner joined Clarient in February 2012. Ms. Smith is a seasoned HR professional who brings extensive HR experience and knowledge to our team. She began her GE career in 2001 with the Consumer and Industrial business where she was the HR Director for Advanced Services Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Appliances. Ms. Smith was the HR Manager for GE Healthcare IT, where she supported oversaw two Healthcare IT sites as well as field application specialists. In that role, she was responsible for employee relations and development, performance management, training, and the facilitation of various HR programs and initiatives throughout the HCIT Practice Solutions organization. Prior to joining Clarient, Ms. Smith was responsible for leading the global HR strategy for the Ultrasound Probes organization. In this role, she partnered closely with HR colleagues in the regional and functional organizations to drive strategic HR functional excellence with key focus in the areas of Organizational Design, Process Excellence & HR Technology, Talent Development, and Employee Relations. Ms. Smith received a BS in Business Management with concentration in Human Resources from Arizona State University and is SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) certified.

Leonard Pulig,  has over 27 years’ of experience in the Life Science industry, serving Pharma, Biotech, Clinical Research and Academia. Before joining GE, Mr. Pulig worked at Bio-Rad laboratories for over 23 years serving in various leadership roles and most recently served as the General Manager of Rainin Instruments.

Leonard has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and attended Northwestern University School of Management.

Maria Piazza, Chief Marketing Officer, Clarient, GE Healthcare, has over 25 years experience in several diverse industrial markets helping teams form and strategize the marketing, sales and technology functions globally. Additionally she has brought process improvements for new product introduction and formalized voice of customer processes in the businesses enabling more externally focused offerings.

Maria joined Clarient, GE Healthcare in 2011 and is currently the Chief Marketing Officer where she leads the Global Product Marketing function for the business.

Maria joined GE as a Sonar Systems Engineer with GE Aerospace in 1988 where she specialized in underwater acoustics for surface ship sonar control systems. She later joined GE Intelligent Platforms as a Sales Engineer focused on commercial consultative selling specialized control & monitoring systems to the automation industry. While at GE IP she held roles as a Sales Engineer, Product Marketing Director and Marketing SixSigma Black Belt. She later held a role as Marketing Integration Leader, working with several newly acquired organizations to strategize and harmonize market penetration programs.

She joined Weidmuller GmbH, a global leader in industrial power, signal and data connectivity in 1996 and held roles in Product Management and later as Director of America’s Marketing leading product management and strategy, where she was based in the US and Germany. She joined GE Healthcare as the Global Product Marketing Manager of the 3.0T MRI Product Line in 2007 leading the global product go-to-market strategies and identification of new 3.0T MRI market opportunities for the academic and urban hospital segments. Later Maria joined GE Healthcare’s Global Marketing Organization to develop and launch healthymagination commercial activities globally.

Maria has BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing Management and Organizational Change & Development. She is a GE Six Sigma Black Belt and is a graduate of GE Healthcare’s Xcellerate Leadership Program.

Nina Green COO Clarient, GE Healthcare, has more than 27 years of experience leading businesses in the biotech and medical laboratory industries with expertise in clinical diagnostics, including oncology, women’s health, and anatomic pathology. Nina served as the VP of Clinical Lab Operations at Genoptix Medical Laboratory (a Novartis company,) and spent four years as the SVP of Operations for Genzyme Genetics (now a division of Lab Corp). Prior to that, Nina was with Quest Diagnostics for 20 years in a variety of business leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including as Managing Director/GM of the Nevada, Texas, Northern California, and San Diego operating units. She has extensive experience in growing existing businesses and new ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and business integrations. Nina received her BA degree in Management from the University of Redlands.

Trace Custer has been with GE Healthcare since 2012 establishing a RA / QA strategy for the Clarient Clinical Diagnostics business and has an extensive background in QC, QA, RA and Operations management, including Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Prior to Trace joining GE, she has been the RA/QA Director at Genzyme Genetics, leading 3 facilities to successful ISO 15189 accreditation, Associate VP RA/QA for Integrated Genetics (LabCorp), establishing regulatory policy and QMS strategies for the clinical diagnostic services and Director of Operations at LabCorp Japan, a provider of genetic testing services. She has a comprehensive background, specializing in complex US and international regulatory environments, establishing RA strategy and associated policies in concert with QMS implementation and operational performance.

Renika Sehgal joined Clarient as Chief Financial Officer in October 2012. Prior to joining Clarient, Ms. Sehgal served as the Risk Finance Manager for General Electric’s Power Generation Services business where she supported the global service contract portfolio. Ms. Sehgal first joined GE as a member of the Financial Management Program at GE Plastics in 2005. From there she continued on to roles within the GE Corporate Audit Staff from 2007 until 2011, where she oversaw various global teams across U.S., Europe and Asia, driving rigor and improvements in financial & operational processes. Ms. Sehgal received her Bachelors of Science degree from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Cynthia (Cindy) Collins, CEO Clarient, GE Healthcare, has over 30 years of experience in leading global teams in diagnostics, biotech, and pharmaceutical businesses and most recently served as President and CEO of GenVec, Inc., a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company focused on developing gene therapies and vaccines. Ms. Collins previously served as Group Vice President, Cellular Analysis Business of Beckman Coulter until its sale to Danaher in 2011. Prior to joining Beckman Coulter, Ms. Collins served as President and CEO of Sequoia Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a private biotechnology company developing antiviral drugs for HIV and HCV. Before joining Sequoia Pharmaceuticals, Ms. Collins served as President of Clinical Micro Sensors, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola (now GenMark Diagnostics) where she directed the development and commercialization of molecular diagnostic microarray products and led the eventual strategic divestiture of the division. Before Motorola, she spent over 17 years at Baxter Healthcare in a variety of executive roles, including President of Global Oncology and Vice President of Strategy and Portfolio Management of the BioScience business. Prior to joining Baxter Healthcare, she worked six years in the Diagnostics Division of Abbott Laboratories in a series of operational assignments. Ms. Collins received her BS degree in Microbiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana and her MBA, with a specialization in marketing, from the The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Ms. Collins is a strategic advisor to Phase Holographic Imaging, Lund, Sweden and XRpro, Cambridge, MA. She is board member of BioHealth Innovations, Inc. in Rockville, MD.

Michael W. Brown joined Clarient as Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Privacy Officer in August of 2011.  Previously, Mr. Brown served as Global Compliance Counsel at Edwards Lifesciences where he implemented its global compliance program for healthcare and anti-corruption, directed its healthcare professional contracting program and oversaw its physician transparency reporting program.  Prior to joining Edwards in 2008, Mr. Brown served as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, Compliance/Privacy for InSight Health Services Corp. where, from 1999 until 2008, he assisted InSight with going private, developed and implemented InSight’s Compliance/HIPAA program, and oversaw multiple acquisitions/integrations that doubled the size of the company.  From 1997 until 1999, Mr. Brown was Asociate Operations Counsel for Tenet HealthSystems and was responsible for performing the legal work for six acute care hospitals in California.  From 1990 to 1997, Mr. Brown served as Corporate Counsel and Compliance Officer for Apria Healthcare and its predecessor, Homedco.  While there, he assisted with the initial public offering, the merger creating Apria and other multi-million dollar acquisitions, created/oversaw Apria’s national contracting program, and was lead in-house counsel responsible for negotiating the settlement of the company’s qui tam action and oversaw the implementation of Apria’s corporate integrity agreement. 

Mr. Brown holds a J.D. from Pepperdine University, School of Law and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from California State University at Fullerton.  He is admitted to practice law in California and is a frequent speaker on compliance, privacy, and other legal-healthcare related topics.

Mark Machulcz joined Clarient in 2011 to help with international and domestic expansion efforts of the diagnostic business. Prior to his role at Clarient, Mark served as Executive Vice President of Operations of PLUS Diagnostics, Inc. and oversaw its California and New Jersey laboratory operations and support staff. Mr. Machulcz previously directed pan-India operations for a unit of Quest Diagnostics Incorporated. Prior to that position, he served as a Director of Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Operations for a unit of Quest. During his tenure at Quest Diagnostics, he improved its anatomic pathology service levels and productivity, and implemented six sigma projects that contributed to more efficient lab operations. Mr. Machulcz received his Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from St. Louis University and his Master's degree in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.

Kenneth J. Bloom, MD has been Medical Director since August 2004 and Chief  Medical Officer since 2005. Dr. Bloom came to Clarient from Irvine, CA-based US Labs, where he served as Senior Medical Director since 2002. Prior to that, Dr. Bloom spent more than two decades serving in senior academic, consultative and clinical roles with leading hospitals and healthcare enterprises principally in the specialization of cancer care.
 

Dr. Bloom’s academic posts have included over 10 years as Associate Professor of Pathology at Chicago-based Rush Medical College, as well as one year as a visiting Professor in the Department of Computer Science at DePaul University. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Bloom has held more than 10 appointed positions at Chicago-based Rush Presbyterian - St. Luke’s Medical Center, one of the leading cancer research hospitals in the US. Those positions included Director of Laboratory Operations, Director of Immunohistochemistry, and Director of the Breast Service in the Department of Pathology, Consultant to the Rush Breast Cancer Center, and Director of Information Services for the Rush Cancer Institute.
 

Dr. Bloom has, for more than three decades, been a prolific researcher and lecturer in the fields of pathology and, specifically, cancer related topics. During his tenure at Rush, his published studies validating the benefits of ACIS® (Automated Cellular Imaging System) image analysis for HER2 evaluation were instrumental in gaining broad acceptance for the Clarient technology. He has been a member of the College of American Pathologists since 1987 and currently serves as a member of the Immunohistochemistry and Technology Assessment Committees for that organization.
 

In addition to US LABS and the other roles mentioned above, Dr. Bloom has served the industry off and on for the past 20 years in both advisory and operational roles. Those appointments include Board of Directors seats, consulting roles and executive posts including executive level positions at both diagnostics technology and information technology firms.
